Welcome to the International Conference on Material Science
and the 64th RILEM Annual Week.

In autumn 2010, the RILEM conference on Material Science in connection with the 64th annual RILEM week will take place in Aachen, Germany. Three separate lines will deal with Textile Reinforced Concrete (ICTRC), additions improving the properties of concrete (AdiPoC) and the modelling of heterogeneous materials (HetMat), respectively. Young and experienced scientists and investigators from industry will come together and discuss new developments in the composite material Textile Reinforced Concrete and the organic/inorganic additions to increase e. g. the strength and durability of concrete. To explain the behaviour of heterogeneous materials like masonry or concrete, analytical or numerical models are often applied. Two different parties – mechanical and building material scientists – work in the same field, often not knowing of each other. They all come together in Aachen.

RWTH Aachen University rated as excellent in teaching and research welcomes all scientists and young researchers from all over the world. The main aim of this conference in connection with the RILEM annual week is to bring together young people who are interested in scientific work and who wish to discuss their work with others doing similar projects and with experienced researchers. But not only the presentations will be of interest, however, it is important to know how scientific work is transferred into practice and communicated. Committee meetings are open for all visitors of the conference and so is the Technical Day on Thursday. Especially young researchers are invited to follow this event free of charge. The chairmen of six committees as well as two very young researchers from Aachen will present their scientific work. The awardee of the Robert L´Hermite Medal will give a talk on his excellent research. All this together, conference and Technical Day, is a highlight for young scientists to learn how research work can be discussed and communicated.

Beside the high quality conference and Technical Day we recommend to visit the many historical places at Aachen, but also to travel the short distance to Essen, the European Capital of Culture 2010, presenting various cultural events. A weekend before or after the conference will be quite convenient and restful. Come to Aachen and enjoy your stay!
